About Department of History :
The Department of History was started in 1968 .
Prof. Madhukar Majgaokar was the first Head of the Department.
After retirement of Prof. Madhukar Majgaokar Dr. Sau. Sushila P.
Lakhe Became the head of the department till the date of April 2024.
Presently Mr. Manojkumar Nagarkar, Associate Professor is the Head
of Department ( From May 2024 to onward.)
Vision :
The History Department aims to make the students aware of the past and its legacies
through teaching, research and extension activities in Indian history in the context of
world history. We believe that only a critical understanding of the past will enable the
students to understand the present and help them look towards the future.
The History Department seeks to build its students' transferable skills, employability and
intellectual curiosity, along with raising public awareness about the past and its legacies,
through teaching, research and service activities conducted locally, statewide,
regionally, nationally, and internationally
Mission :
Organizing conference, workshop, seminars, poster and other competitions, for students.
Under the Internal Quality Assessment Cell (IQAC), History department arranging guest lectures.
To help the student for future endeavors through G.T.S. (Guardian- Teacher scheme).
Formation of U. G. History Study Centre.
Personal guidance to the needy students in the department room.
Conducting unit tests and test examination.
Arranging short and long study tours.
Programm Objective:
SoStudents are able to understand the genesis of history and development of
history writingindifferent country as well as in India.
Surces of ancient India, Civilizations like Indus and Aryan, political and religious
changes in 6th century B.C., Mauryan Empire etc are studied.
Students will distinguish between primary and secondary sources and identify
andevaluate evidence.
Students will demonstrate in discussion and written work their understanding of
differentpeoples and cultures in past environments and of how those cultures
changed over the course of the centuries.
Students will demonstrate in written work and class discussions the ability to
recognize and articulate the diversity of human experience, including ethnicity,
race, language, gender, as well as political, economic, social, and cultural structures
over time and space.
Future Plan:
To motivate students for Research work.
To create more interest in History subject because history is a bridge connecting
past to present. Everyone should know our nation's as well as world history for
betterment of mankind.
To motivate the students for civil service examination like MPSC, UPSC, NET, SET,
Banking, LIC etc.
To encourage the students for scoring more marks in History subject.
To visit national archives and historical places in India.
Planning to organize international seminar.
Planning to invite eminent professors.
