About Department of Sanskrit :
The Department of Sanskrit was established in 1969. The college offers Sanskrit literature (SLT) as an optional subject on UG level. Our college is included amongst the few colleges which offer Sanskrit as a subject under R.T.M Nagpur University, Nagpur. A renowned scholar, poetess, litterateur and dramatist Dr. Leena Rastogi (M. A, Ph.D., D.Lit.) was the first Head of the Department.
Sanskrit is considered as the oldest language of the world. Indian scripture & religious texts are composed in the Sanskrit language. There is very rich, glorious and prosperous tradition of Vedic & Laukik Literature in Sanskrit such as Veda, Mantra, Aranyak, Upanishad, Vedanga (six organs of Veda) grammar, poetics, prose drama, epic, Giti Kavya, Niti katha, story etc. Sanskrit plays crucial, vital & decisive role in the study of linguistics especially in the field of comparative study. Linguists have proved that Sanskrit is the best language for computer due to its aphoristic structure & nature.
